What's New with Apple's M4 Macs: Major Updates to iMac, MacBook Pro, and Mac mini

Apple is gearing up to introduce their M4 Mac lineup, with anticipated updates to the iMac, MacBook Pro, and Mac mini. The event is expected in October, but the new Macs might not ship until November. Here’s a look at what’s coming:

16GB RAM as Standard:

Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman reports that Apple plans to start offering 16GB of RAM as the default configuration for the new M4 Macs, including the base 14” MacBook Pro, Mac mini, and iMac. This is a significant upgrade from the 8GB standard, marking the first increase in memory since 2015. With Apple devices becoming more memory-hungry, this change is timely.

Mac mini Redesign:

The Mac mini is rumored to undergo its most substantial redesign in 14 years. The new model will likely be smaller and more compact. However, it may lose support for USB-A ports while gaining additional USB-C ports, aligning with Apple’s focus on a streamlined, future-ready design.

USB-C Magic Accessories:

With a new iMac expected this fall, Apple is also likely to refresh its Magic Mouse, Keyboard, and Trackpad to comply with the EU’s USB-C mandate. These accessories will ditch the Lightning port in favor of USB-C, marking a significant shift in Apple’s desktop lineup.

Space Black for MacBook Pro:

Currently, the sleek Space Black color is reserved for the high-end M3 Pro and M3 Max MacBook Pros, but it could soon be available for the base M4 MacBook Pro. This move would create a more cohesive aesthetic across the MacBook Pro lineup.

New M4 Pro and M4 Max Chips:

Apple is also expected to debut the M4 Pro and M4 Max chips in the upcoming high-end MacBook Pros. Built on TSMC’s 3nm process, these chips promise improved efficiency and performance, although specific details like core counts remain under wraps.

Stay tuned for Apple's October event to see these exciting updates!
